What's onThis week in the Thai Islands
Winter sun on two seas
Thailand’s islands are one of the great winter-sun escapes. On the Andaman coast, Phuket, Krabi and Railay, Phi Phi, Koh Lanta and the Koh Yao islands are calmest and driest from November to April, when the north-east monsoon brings clear skies; from May to October the south-west monsoon brings rain and swell, and some marine parks close. The Gulf islands, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao, keep a different calendar: their wettest months are October to December, and the calm, dry season runs from January. We list only places we have checked against the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the MICHELIN Guide and each business’s own website.
Cut off by cliffs
Railay
Railay is reached only by boat: limestone cliffs close it off from the mainland, Phra Nang’s cave beach lies at their foot, and the dry season from November to April brings the calmest seas (TAT).
Plan your visitThe Andaman Sea
Limestone towers, cave beaches and coral: best from November to April.
The Gulf of Thailand and the east
Villas, wellness and dive sites: the Gulf is driest from January.
