About Jui Tui Shrine and the Vegetarian Festival

Jui Tui Shrine, off Ranong Road in the old town, holds Phuket’s Vegetarian Festival each year with a Chinese opera troupe. The festival lasts nine days: the Go Teng pillar is raised and nine lanterns lit to open it, followed by ceremonies and processions through the streets, with acts of devotion such as fire-walking (TAT). Our advice: during the festival, dress in white and follow the shrine’s customs; the processions are religious, not shows.

Opening hours, prices and seasonal openings change, so please check with Jui Tui Shrine and the Vegetarian Festival before you go.
